On the eighteenth birthday of her missing daughter, Carrie is frustrated with the news coverage of it. The news reporter calls the case hopeless. Carrie calls them to complain. Carrie's husband, John, is aloof to the situation. John works late and misses their son's baseball game. Later, the police notify them of possible new evidence of their daughter's whereabouts. John isn't hopeful but Carrie remains optimistic. During a press conference, Jack is asked about his sister and he says he also believes she's dead. John yells at him for this, but Carries says it's okay. Carrie tries to apologize to Jack later; she feels she hasn't been a great mother during all this. Jack doesn't respond. Carrie decides to leave her family and go search for her daughter herself.
